Colony Club Offers Old World Elegance for Durell and Karla’s Wedding Day

20171229_164113_001The historic Colony Club is centrally located in downtown Detroit on Park Avenue.  It is one of the most beautiful and popular event spaces in the city for weddings and private events.  Nothing says old world elegance like gold leaf ceilings, impressive crystal chandeliers and Louis XVI decor.  Karla and Durell were married here among family and friends by Pastor Jerry.  The large wedding party walked down the aisle to the worship song “10,000 Reasons”.  Karla and her parents processed to the ever popular “Kanon in D” by Pachelbel.  A highlight for us was accompanying Durell’s Aunt, Dorianne Denard, while she sang the spiritual “It is Well”.  Her moving rendition was the perfect compliment to her nephew’s wedding ceremony.  20171229_181943

As always, The Colony Club staff was superb.  Molly, the venue wedding coordinator, was incredibly helpful with cues.  With a large wedding party, extra eyes are always helpful and we appreciate her assistance.  The guests enjoyed a cocktail hour downstairs followed by dinner in the grand ballroom.   We send our best wishes to Karla and Durell as they being their life together as husband and wife.

Elegance, Gilt and History: The Colony Club Trifecta For a Memorable Wedding

20160819_180818A wedding at the Colony Club is always an elegant affair. Located on Park Ave in the heart of the entertainment district, it opened in 1929 as a Women’s Club. The Georgian exterior is complimented by the 3rd floor’s impressive Louis XVI ballroom. Painted in Versailles cream and gilt, the ballroom was the site of Jasmine and Zach’s wedding ceremony and reception.  It seemed appropriate to play the classic melodies of Vivaldi and Bach here.  The bridesmaids and adorable flower girl walked down the aisle to Pachelbel’s Kanon in D while Jasmine chose the traditional Bridal Chorus by Wagner for her bridal processional and Mendelssohn’s Wedding March for her and Zach’s recessional.  20160819_172214

Our friend Bill Fenton of “I Do’s Your Way” officiated the ceremony with his usual professionalism and words of wisdom. Molly, the coordinator for Colony Club, was another professional on top of all the details involved in a orchestrating a large wedding celebration. We have to mention the gorgeous flowers of Bellisario Florist and the outstanding work of Sweet and Savory on the stunning wedding cake.  Clearly, both of these vendors are at the top of their profession and Jasmine had done her research to find some of the best in the business. Congratulations to Mr. and Mrs. Gray as they begin their married life together!

College Rivalry Ends In Wedded Bliss

IMG_2121Kristin and Michael, both teachers in the Seattle area, were recently married at the Colony Club.  The couple met at new teacher orientation following graduation from the college rivals, University of Michigan and Ohio State.  The couple chose Bach, Kanon in D and the Beatles for their ceremony which was directed by Jon Reynolds of St. Paul’s United Methodist Church and included a hand fasting ceremony.  Viviano Flower Shop did an outstanding job, as usual, creating stunning arrangements. This is a dog loving couple who decided to leave their furry ring bearer and flower child at home in Seattle while they traveled to Detroit.  We also had the pleasure of playing cocktails before Mike Staff Productions took over for the reception.  Kristin surprised her new husband by requesting the Simpson’s Theme, Starlight and Purple Haze.  Our contemporary selection always makes a statement and allows couples to select music that reflects their personality and interests.  We have no doubt that their students are fortunate to have these two as their teachers.  We have made the Colony Club our second home this summer and always appreciate the efficiency of Alyssa Trybus and her staff.  If you are looking for timeless elegance with attention to detail, look no further and book the Colony Club and Mike Staff Productions for your special day.

Colony Club Wedding Brings Together Old and New Friends

IMG_2090There are many days when our weekly engagements provide an opportunity for us to meet new colleagues in the Detroit wedding business.  But for Ryan and Megan’s wedding at the Colony Club last weekend, it felt like a visit with old friends.  We have had weddings at the Colony Club for three consecutive weekends.  You know you’re a frequent visitor when the doorman remembers you and greets you with a “Welcome back!”  Our friend Jason from Night and Day Productions was there as well confirming that the evening was going to proceed beautifully.  Known for their personality, style and customer service, we have worked with Night and Day for many years.   They are one of the best in the metro area!

Megan and Ryan held their ceremony on the 4th floor which provided an intimate setting for their guests.  They decided to keep it traditional with the music of Handel, Vivaldi and Bach.  They utilized two contemporary pieces in their ceremony.  “A Thousand Years” for the bridal party and “Falling Slowly” for the unity candle.  Our friend, Dr. Richard Henderson of Faith Community Presbyterian Church in Novi officiated the ceremony.  We are frequent performers at Faith Community and recently played for their Easter Cantata.  The ceremony included a reading of the song lyrics from a Steven Curtis Chapman song titled “I Will Be Here”.

Following the ceremony, the guests were invited to a cocktail hour on the ground floor.  The food looked and smelled amazing!    We entertained them with our fantastic collection of contemporary music and every one appeared to be having a great time.  Congratulations to Megan and Ryan!
