A Taste of History at The Bloomfield Open Hunt

20170120_193940The Bloomfield Open Hunt recently celebrated its Centennial and began the celebration with a cocktail party kickoff.   Wendy Grouix invited us to perform for the evening and we enjoyed the opportunity to play a variety of songs from all the eras as guests walked through the club, looked at photo albums that chronicled the clubs rich history while enjoying an assortment of hors d’oeuvres.

The evening was an interpretation of a 1917 cocktail party.  All the culinary offerings were recipes taken from various historical menus of that time. In addition to an assortment of canapés, guests enjoyed wild rice pancakes, mushroom pinwheels, croquettes with sherry sauce and more.  The informative program noted that in the Detroit area, cocktail parties were an important part of society life. With the dawn of the cocktail parties came the introduction of certain types of foods that could be easily served at such functions. These “finger foods” became the staple of the cocktail party menu.

The members of the Bloomfield Open Hunt Club enjoy a wonderful legacy handed down over generations since the Club’s founding in the early twentieth century. Elegant while still based in tradition, the club is an equestrian facility and unique family club for all seasons.

Rondo Honored with The Knots “HALL OF FAME” Award

We received a tremendous honor this week!  The Knot is an online site that provides vendor information, reviews and ideas for every possible aspect of ones wedding day. Each year, this online wedding site holds a “best of weddings” competition.  Reviews from former clients are the way in which you accumulate votes.  We are so proud to have been a winner of the Best of Weddings for several years running.  This Hall of Fame trophy was awarded to us for having been voted the “BEST” by real newlyweds four or more times. While the trophy is lovely, its the fact that our former clients are so pleased with our string quartet services that they will take the time to write us a glowing review. Our 5 Star designation, the highest possible, is a point of pride for us.  We consider it an honor to be a part of any couples wedding day and work diligently to provide the best possible musical experience.  The music is a critical part of a wedding day and one that should hold memories for the newlyweds and guests alike. If you are looking for wedding music, check out any of our 70 reviews on The Knot.

Bloomfield Hunt Club – Where horses and wine define a good time!

20151022_181309Few places can top the elegance and tradition of the Bloomfield Open Hunt Club. It was in 1917 that a small group of Grosse Pointe and “Hills” residents purchased 6.7 acres at the dirt road intersection of Bloomfield Center Road (now Long Lake Road) and Ball Line Road (now Kensington Road) for the purpose of pursuing their recreational passion of fox hunting.  From that special direction, a truly unique family club has emerged. Although actual fox hunting ended in 1965 the equestrian facet continued to thrive with new barns and over 70 acres for riding and both indoor and outdoor rings.  In the next three decades, the trend towards a wide variety of sports and recreational facilities to the broad interest of the members took shape and continues into the next century.

It was in this venue that we had the pleasure of playing for a Wine Dinner hosted by Wendy GrimaldiGoulx. The evening opened with a horse exhibition and hor d’oeuvres. Thomas Arvid, America’s preeminent painter of wine, was present with several of his beautiful works for sale. We played through dinner as each wine was introduced, sampled and the various courses served. Our classic rock selections were a very well received. We saw the cell phones come out as we played Fred Bear, Kashmir and Stairway to Heaven. It was lovely evening for a group of friends coming together to support the equestrian programs of this esteemed Hunt Club.

Casual Elegance Defines Wedding at Tam-O-Shanter in West Bloomfield

IMG_2464Sophisticated and reflecting casual elegance, Tam-O-Shanter Country Club has a rich history in our community that extends back to 1925 when a group of wealthy Detroit industrialists leased the 160-acre tract of rolling wooded land in West Bloomfield.  Known for its beautiful vista of the golf course, the Club House is of English architecture and masonry construction.  Jodi and Ethan chose this premier venue for their wedding day and exchanged vows overlooking the country club’s 18-hole Championship course.  One of the days highlights was the humor that Noah brought to the wedding ceremony in his role as officiant.  Ethan’s brother and Jodi’s good friend since the 6th grade, Noah wove the story of their relationship and unique qualities into the wedding vows.  The warmth and laughter shared by family and friends alike reflected the kind and generous nature of this couple.

Over the months of conversations, interactions and the process of music selection, we often develop an impression of the couple.  It was clear that Ethan and Jodi have a appreciation for tradition and an enjoyment of current trends. For their wedding ceremony, they chose classics such as the Beatles “In My Life” and “Build Me Up Buttercup” by the Foundations.  Yet they followed it with Postal Service’s “Such Great Heights” and “Just the Way You Are” by Bruno Mars.

Following the ceremony, we played a wide array of music for the cocktail hour and had couples dancing, Dads and their daughters bouncing and swaying while others sang along to “I’m A Believer”, “Don’t Stop Believing” just to name a few. Tam-o-Shanter is known for its fine dining and the aroma of lamb chops and other delectable hor’doeurves were mouth watering while The “red coat” ladies from Party Assurance had everything running on time with their usual efficiency right up to the end with dinner and dancing provided by a top area band.  Congratulations to Jodi and Ethan and best wishes for a lifetime of happiness.

Planterra Conservatory Creates A Tropical Destination Wedding Here in Michigan

5d91e0d8-8372-447d-ea5f-2198724c51e3[1]A tropical wedding sounds luxuriously appealing but isn’t always practical for today’s couples and their families.  Karine and Christopher exchanged vows in a beautiful tropical setting right here in Michigan at the Planterra Conservatory of West Bloomfield.  The wedding was exceptionally well organized with the help of Megan, event coordinator at Planterra, who made sure that the facility was looking it’s best, and  Tiffany of Party Assurance who orchestrated the event with expertise and calm. A veteran in the wedding business, Tiffany is a delight to work with and we are always thankful for her assistance and reassured when we see her.

The couple chose upbeat contemporary music for their ceremony.  We played “Don’t Stop Believin'” by Journey, “Firework” by Katy Perry, “Such Great Heights” by Postal Service “Marry Me” by Train and “Starlight” by Muse to mentioned just a few.  Bill Fenton of “I Do’s Your Way” was the officiant and spoke eloquently about the couple and a young marriage. Fairytale Productions, videographers, captured the day for the couple to enjoy for years top come. The bridal party wore soft grey/silvery dresses and was completed by two adorable little boys, one of whom come down in a wagon.  As cute as they were, they could not out shine Karine, who had a gorgeous gown accented with silver and a skirt of soft flowing folds.  It was a beauty! We wish them the very best as they begin the adventure of a lifetime.

”Now you are two persons, but there is only one life before you”

IMG_1236This quote from the Apache wedding prayer was part of the reading at Amanda and Phillip’s wedding at Oakland Hills Country Club in Bloomfield Hills. It was read by Geoffrey Gower, who traveled from Great Britain to be present at his granddaughter’s wedding. It was a sentimental start to the wedding which was highlighted by Amanda’s daughter, Layla, processing as the flower girl for her mother’s wedding.

Oakland Hills Country Club is a beautiful venue and an exceptionally efficient staff. Karen Sahlin, wedding coordinator for the country club, was a great help and we extend our appreciation to her and her staff for their assistance. The flowers, the work of Dale Morgan of Blossoms, were composed of gorgeous purples and yellows. Photographer Kellie Saunders was getting some terrific shots of the couple and Videographer Tom Estes was documenting the day for the Amanda and Phillip. We saw our friend and colleague, Seth Michaels of Mike Staff Productions setting up for the reception so are confident that the music for the evening ahead was excellent.
Congratulations to Phillip and Amanda and best wishes as they begin their lives together as a family. IMG_1237

“Made for the Movies” Wedding Day is All Beauty and No Beast

Congratulations to Sheila and Jason on their wedding this past weekend.  The ceremony was held at the Mary-Martha Chapel at Greenfield Village and officiated by Reverend Graham of “A Joyful Celebration Weddings”.  Rev. Graham spoke beautifully on the subject of love and incorporated several poems and quotes that were new to us yet very fitting for this couple.  It turns out that his colleague, Rev. Sherry wrote the wedding  specifically for Sheila and Jason by incorporating the couples life stories, conversations, lyrics from their selected songs, and quotes from people who are inspirational to them. She succeeded in creating a beautifully personal ceremony.  Jason and Sheila have a love of movies and Sheila especially has a strong connection to Beauty and the Beast.  So much so that she chose the music from the movie for her bridal processional.  In fact, all the songs we played for the guest seating and during the ceremony were from movies.  Several of the guests asked us about Glory Of Love from The Karate Kid Two and written by Chicago brass player, Peter Cetera.  We also included “Somewhere Out There” from American Tail for the bridesmaids, Hallelujah from Shrek for the unity candle and “When You Wish Upon A Star” from Pinocchio during the marriage license signing.  The couple recessed to “Pirates of the Caribbean”.  Appropriate to the theme, Sheila had a true Cinderella wedding gown, complete with the tiara.  Following the ceremony, the guests gathered at the Dearborn Inn for cocktails and dinner.  We continued with our movie themed music and hoped that Jason would be around for his favorite, Mission Impossible.  The guests were all having a good time and we were appreciative of all the kind comments.  It’s always a supreme compliment when a guest will take time to come and comment on how much they enjoyed the music.  Our job would be so much more challenging if not for the efficiency and competence of wedding coordinators.  We send our thanks to Cheryl LaPalm of Greenfield Village and Christie Dixon of the Dearborn Inn for their help with set up and cues.  A good coordinator is a wonderful asset to your event.  We send Jason and Sheila our best wishes!

Legacy of Love Defines 50th Wedding Anniversary at Orchard Lake Country Club

Congratulations to Eva and Ziggy who celebrated their 50th Wedding Anniversary with family and friends at Orchard Lake Country Club.  As the pictures show, the room was elegantly appointed and a re-recreation of their original wedding cake had been prepared by the staff.  Our thanks to Diane, banquet coordinator for Orchard Lake, for her assistance throughout the evening.  It is always a sincere pleasure to play at their elegant facility.

Throughout the evening, we played a wide assortment of music, including one of Eva’s favorites, “Moon River”.  The guests enjoyed a delicious meal and shared memories and words of appreciation to the couple.  Towards the end, Ziggy and Eva shared a dance as we serenaded them.  As we listened to the speeches given by family, we were truly touched by the legacy of love that this couple has created over the years.  We send them heartfelt congratulations for inspiring us and demonstrating that marital bliss can indeed stand the test of time.  May there be many happy days ahead for years to come.
