Great Planning by Rivercrest Makes For a “Happy Ending” Wedding

Congratulations to Chris and Avni on their wedding at the Rivercrest in Rochester Hills.  Katie Groves, wedding coordinator at Rivercrest was prepared and had tents erected on the patio in case of stormy weather.  But the couple lucked out as the rain began as the bridesmaids finished their exit.  Chris and Avni got their desired outdoor wedding and it was lovely.  The ceremony, officiated by Jim Giammicchia, blended the traditions of the couples Hindu and Catholic faith.  A reading of 1 Corinthians 12, which is famous for the “love is kind” quote, was followed by Chris’ father conducting the Saptapadi or saat. While the bride and the groom took seven circles around the lighted candles, Chris’ father recited the mantras and spoke of the real essence and significance of marriage.  Chris then completed the ceremony by placing the manga sutra around Avni’s neck.  One of the most touching moments was the reading of “These are the Hands” poem.  If you are not familiar with it, it is worth finding if you are involved with planning a wedding.  Avni, cried just a little as it was read, moved to emotion by the words and sentiment of the moment.  I myself was misty eyed and that is rare, as our quartet plays weddings almost every weekend from April to October.   For the wedding ceremony, we played all classical music including Jesu, Joy of Man’s Desiring, Air by Bach and Vivaldi’s Spring.  We also had the pleasure of playing for their cocktail hour and performed a variety of Sinatra, Beatles, Jazz, Louis Armstrong and some contemporary songs.  The guests responded to our Sinatra selections very well!  Chris and Avni included a photo booth at their reception and that was a big hit among the guests.  We’ve seen that at a couple of wedding receptions now and it seems to be very popular this year.  It was a beautiful night for a lovely couple and we wish them the very best as they begin married life together.
